Observation Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

The NMC's test of competence is divided into two parts:

Nurses, who successfully complete their CBT, are then issued with a decision letter from the NMC which authorises them to sit their OSCE.

The OSCE is a practical examination designed to test your ability to apply your professional nursing skills and knowledge to the care of patients, at the level expected of a newly registered nurse.

For more information about the OSCE see: https://www.northampton.ac.uk/about-us/services-and-facilities/nmc-test-of-competence/nmc-test-of-competence-preparation/

Applicants may sit the OSCE, up to three times as part of one application. If the applicant is unsuccessful after their permitted attempts, their application will close.

For this reason Brookes Recruitment provide practice workshops to help prepare candidates to pass their OSCE. This is done through practice based scenarios which aim to help candidates understand the overall process and expectation of the test. Each individual candidate will be given the opportunity to practice the scenarios and to implement the skills covered on the course.
